"Metaphysics of the Two-Headed Calf" is a performance based on Witkacy's 1921 drama, written seven years after his expedition with ethnographer Bronisław Malinowski to New Guinea, Australia, and Ceylon. The St. I. Witkiewicz Theatre will present it on January 2, 2027 at 19:15 on the Witkacy Stage in Zakopane.
The main character is Karmazyniello, a young man trying to discover the truth about his origins and complicated family relationships. In doing so, he must define himself in a world full of mental and social constraints. The performance concerns maturation, the formation of personality, and cultural, family, and social identity. It analyzes the relationship between a young individual's self-creation and the limitations imposed by cultural coercion and social discipline, including from those closest to him.
