About this event
Kino Klaps in Limanowa is launching a film series "DOBRE Cinema". The next screening will take place on November 16, 2026 at 5:00 PM, featuring the film "Pauper and Madame" about Adam Chmielowski, known as Saint Brother Albert.
The series aims to combine cinema with reflection, discussion, and meetings with invited guests. The films presented will address faith, spirituality, Christian values, and questions about human life and its relationship with God and others. The program will also include productions about human experience, the search for meaning, hope, and responsibility. The organizers want "DOBRE Cinema" to be primarily a space for meeting and dialogue, not just a place to watch films.
The timing and film choice are deliberate. The day before marks World Day of the Poor, and a few days earlier is the anniversary of Saint Brother Albert's canonization. The screening is an opportunity for reflection on the power of faith, selfless love of neighbor, sensitivity to human suffering, and finding life's meaning in service to others.
"Pauper and Madame" illustrates the artistic and spiritual journey of Adam Chmielowski, a Polish January Uprising insurgent, painter, and benefactor of the poor. After a turbulent youth, he decides to abandon his previous life and becomes known to the world as Brother Albert. His rebellious nature and refusal to accept evil and suffering lead him to escape tsarist captivity hidden in a coffin. After achieving fame as an artist, he abandons art to serve others. His life includes breakdown, expulsion from the Jesuit order, and confinement to a mental institution. He soon recovers and returns as Brother Albert, the future saint. The story is complemented by the lives of friends and artists: Helena Modrzejewska and Józef Chełmoński.
Ticket price: 19 zł. The series is under the honorary patronage of Fr. Dr. Wiesław Piotrowski, parish priest of the Church of Our Lady of Sorrows in Limanowa. Media patronage provided by Radio RDN.
