"Widma atelier. Etiuda romantyczna" is a performance by Teatru Mumerus presented at Teatr Kto. Cast: Le Furia Gigier, Jan Mancewicz, Jacek Milczanowski, and Bartłomiej Zdeb, accompanied on stage by musicians Michał Braszak and Alicja Margolin.
The action unfolds in a painter's atelier where windows must never be washed. The reason: light. When it passes too insistently through the glass, it can distort any face and even contradict reality itself. This is where jaded professional models and ham-actor performers meet, feeling at home in this space. Contempt flashes in their eyes when someone moves an easel or abandons a canvas to oblivion.
Time in the atelier is measured by sound, and a single chord can animate several distant histories. The music of the National Composer, played on a decrepit piano, becomes a prison for the actors. They strain to listen, hoping for a pause to catch their breath, but in vain. Meanwhile, a phantom in a forgotten corner intones a song with a melody known only to itself, yet somehow familiar to the audience as well.
Props here act as vehicles of memory, though it is unclear where they lead: to personal recollections or to poses devised as part of an acting task. Teatru Mumerus makes no promises of answers to these questions, but opens the door to the interior and invites you into the world of widma atelier.
