Grzegorz Niemczuk, who made his debut at Filharmonia Krakowska in 2025, returns to Kraków with a new program. The pianist will perform at Auditorium Maximum Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego with a recital of "Famous Piano Sonatas". The concert is part of his European tour, covering most Polish philharmonic halls and international venues including Gewandhaus in Leipzig, Wiener Konzerthaus, Rudolfinum in Prague, Stadtcasino in Basel, Tonhalle in Zurich, Salle Paderewski in Lausanne, Yehudi Menuhin Forum in Bern, and Mozarteum in Salzburg. The program features four sonatas that, according to the organizers, practically never appear together in a single evening: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - Sonata in A major K. 331 with the Turkish March finale; Ludwig van Beethoven - Sonata in C-sharp minor op. 27 no. 2 ("Moonlight"); Frédéric Chopin - Sonata in B-flat minor op. 35 ("Funeral March"); Frédéric Chopin - Sonata in B minor op. 58. Between the works, the pianist discusses their historical, emotional, and biographical context to help the audience understand what, how, and why each piece was composed. Niemczuk takes the microphone during performances to explain the works being performed, sometimes highlighting important moments during playing so listeners don't lose their way through the complex musical structures. Rather than merely biographical facts, he shares his own knowledge and performance experience as well as interesting details that are mainly known to musicians, speaking in simple language addressed to audiences.
