Open Stage 2026

"Portrait of Passion" is a performance of "Piazzolla. Faces of Tango" by International Ballet Company Italia from Italy. Choreography by Alessandro Bonavita. The show takes place as part of Open Stage 2026 on October 29, 2026 at 6:00 PM at Centrum Sztuki Mościce in Tarnów. Following a story about freedom from the history of Spartacus, the festival turns toward the power born from the passion of creation. The hero of the jubilee "Portraits of Dance" is Astor Piazzolla, an artist who changed the way people think about tango. He did not reject tradition, but gave it a new dimension, combining Argentine roots with influences of classical music and jazz. The performance is not a classical biography of the composer. Bonavita creates a portrait of the artist through emotions contained in his music: passion, melancholy, unease, and the need for exploration. The choreographer describes his work: "In my choreography, tango becomes more than a characteristic rhythm and form of movement. It is a space of relationships, tensions, and human stories. Classical ballet technique meets the expression of contemporary dance, creating a language full of contrasts - elegance and spontaneity, precision and emotional freedom." On stage we will see a fifteen-member international ensemble of dancers from renowned ballet schools across Europe. Their interpretation includes both subtle, lyrical phrases and fragments full of energy. The performance also reminds us that Piazzolla's innovative approach to tango initially met with resistance from part of the community, which believed tradition should remain untouched. The artist did not abandon his vision, and his music crossed the borders of Argentina.
