About Palace and Park Complex in Siary

The Długosz Palace from 1900-1908 in the Viennese Secession style with Neo-Baroque elements, listed in the heritage register in 1976, with a park with a pergola and a fountain.

The Palace and Park Complex in Siary, known as the Długosz Palace, is a historic palace surrounded by a park in Gorlice, formerly in the village of Siary. It was built in 1900-1908 to a design by the Fellner & Helmer studio in the Viennese Secession style with Neo-Baroque elements. The initiator of the construction was the Galician oil industrialist Władysław Długosz. In 1976 the palace was entered in the heritage register.

History of the palace

Earlier there stood here the wooden Dembowski manor house, dating back to the 14th century. At the end of the 19th century Długosz bought the land from his future father-in-law, Władysław Dembowski, and replaced the manor house with a brick palace. In 1916, during the First World War, the estate was partly destroyed, after which a southern part with the owner's apartments was added. In December 1928 a fire broke out, after which the building was rebuilt in its unchanged form. During the occupation a German hospital was housed here, and after 1945 in turn offices, a state farm and a stud farm. Neglect in the communist period led to damage to the fabric of the monument.

Architecture and park

The palace was built of brick and stone. The facade is pale pink, and its features are large porte-fenetre windows and varied roof shapes. Inside there is a semicircular two-storey hall with a mezzanine. In the park there are a pergola, a fountain and sculptures. According to Długosz family tradition, the designer of the park was Arnold Röhring.

Visiting and the surroundings

The property belongs to a private owner. According to Wikipedia, special events and accommodation are organised there, and visiting is possible. In the neighbourhood lies the Siary Rope Park, and not far away the Church of St Philip and St James in Sękowa.
