Ruins of a medieval castle above the Raba River, with scattered blocks of stone left from the tower.
Myślenice Castle is today the ruins of a medieval castle on the right bank of the Raba. All that remains of the building are fragments of a 13th-14th-century stone tower scattered over the slope. The site is on the heritage register.
The ruins lie on a spur of the slope of Uklejna hill, known as Zamczysko, at an altitude of about 380 m above sea level. The site was cut off from the ridge by two ditches and a rampart. A cylindrical tower with an external diameter of 10.2 metres stood here. It was blown up, and its fragments lie on the slopes, now densely overgrown with trees. The area is protected by the Zamczysko nad Rabą nature reserve, covering 1.35 ha.
Sources do not name the founder. The first mention, from 1342, concerns a customs house on the road from Kraków to Hungary, and burgraves are named in documents from 1399. The castle was already a ruin in the 16th century. Mikołaj Rej stayed there as a guest of Spytek Wawrzyniec Jordan.
