A wooden villa in the Zakopane style from 1897, designed by Stanisław Witkiewicz, home of the Pawlikowski family.
Villa Pod Jedlami at ul. Koziniec 1 in Zakopane is a wooden villa in the Zakopane style, built in 1897 to a design by Stanisław Witkiewicz. It is entered in the heritage register, and Wikipedia states that it is regarded as the fullest realisation of this architect's style.
The villa was built for the Pawlikowski family, and the investor was Jan Gwalbert Pawlikowski. The builders were Zapotoczny and Obrochta. The site on Koziniec hill, not far from the Bystre district, was chosen by the architect himself. Notable features include a stone foundation reaching 4 m at its highest point, carved structural elements, among them lynxes and balustrades, a veranda on the north side and a lean-to on the south.
The poet Maria Pawlikowska-Jasnorzewska lived and worked in the villa, and her sister Magdalena Samozwaniec visited. In the garden grow Swiss stone pines, yews and larches, and there is a historic well designed by Witkiewicz and a former outbuilding, Domek pod Jasieniami. From 1972 Zofia and Witold Paryski, experts on the Tatras, lived in it, and their library and archive were kept there.
