Former synagogue from 1871 on the upper floor of a townhouse at ulica Estery 12 in Kazimierz.
The former synagogue of the Bobov Hasidim was located on the upper floor of a townhouse at ulica Estery 12 in Kazimierz. It was founded in 1871 and none of its original furnishings survive today.
The prayer house was founded by the Hasidim of Bobowa, followers of the tzadikim of the Halberstam family. The building was designed by Jacek Matusiński. Besides the prayer hall it housed a Talmudic school. During the Second World War the German occupiers devastated the interior.
After the war the building housed a carpentry workshop and flats. From 1996 the city handed it over to an association, which set up a shelter and a canteen there. In 2001 the building was returned to the Jewish Religious Community in Kraków, and for years there was a dispute over its use. Nothing in open sources indicates that the building is open to visitors today.
The most important monuments of the former Jewish quarter can be found nearby, for example the Old Synagogue, about 200 m away.
