Barrage from 1957-1961 with a road and pedestrian bridge linking Grzegórzki and Podgórze.
The Dąbie Barrage is a hydraulic structure on the Vistula in Kraków, built in 1957-1961. A bridge with pavements runs over the weir, so you can walk across here from Grzegórzki to Podgórze.
The barrage consists of a weir with five spans, a lock, an earth dam, a control room, a fish pass and a hydroelectric power plant. The barrage slows erosion of the riverbed and eases navigation in the city centre. Raising the water level improved the river landscape and increased the appeal of the Vistula boulevards.
The bridge over the barrage was built in 1966 to a design by Jan Szarling. It has 10 spans, is 230 m long and 13.4 m wide. It links ulica Ofiar Dąbia (Grzegórzki) with ulica Stoczniowców (Podgórze). Pedestrian pavements run along the sides, from which you can see the river and the weir.
In the area is Oskar Schindler's Enamel Factory, about 1.3 km away.
