A Gothic boundary pillar from 1450 with sculptures and Latin inscriptions, founded by Cardinal Oleśnicki.
A Gothic boundary pillar from 1450 stands on Bohaterów Września Street in Biskupice Radłowskie, in Radłów municipality. It is regarded as the oldest surviving object of this type in Poland.
The pillar was set up by the medieval road from Radłów to Opatów, on the boundary between Biskupice Radłowskie, then part of the estates of the bishops of Kraków, and the knightly village of Zabawa. It was founded by Cardinal Zbigniew Oleśnicki to end neighbourly disputes. Its construction sealed a legal act establishing the course of the boundary between the bishops' estates and the properties of Zabawa and Zdrochec.
It is a four-sided prism with chamfered corners made of Pińczów limestone, topped with a small stone roof with a ball. In the niches are bas-reliefs: on the front face the crucified Christ, on the sides Our Lady and St John the Evangelist, and on the back the Dębno coat of arms under a cardinal's hat. Latin inscriptions in Gothic minuscule give the date 4 May 1450. The pillar was restored in 1898.
