PTTK mountain hut from 1913 on the Stara Roztoka clearing, 1,031 m above sea level, on the trail to Morskie Oko.
The PTTK (Polish Tourist and Sightseeing Society) mountain hut named after Wincenty Pol in the Roztoka Valley, also known as Roztoka or the Hut at Stara Roztoka, stands on the Stara Roztoka clearing in the High Tatras, at 1,031 m above sea level, below the mouth of the Roztoka Valley in the Białka Valley. The patron is Wincenty Pol, and the hut is run by PTTK.
The first hut was built in 1876 under the direction of Fr Wojciech Roszek and Leopold Świerz. It was the second hut in the Polish Tatras, after the old hut at Morskie Oko. The present building dates from 1913, when the old building was moved to a drier place. In 1887 Walery Eljasz-Radzikowski marked out the trail from Jaszczurówka, regarded as the first marked path in the Polish Tatras.
From October 1939 to February 1940 the hut served as a transit point for Poles making their way to Hungary.
The hut has 75 beds in rooms for 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 and 9 people. There is electricity, hot water, a buffet, a canteen, a common room, a letter box and wireless internet. From July to September Masses are celebrated. In autumn you can watch the deer rut on the clearing.
The green trail leads to Wodogrzmoty Mickiewicza (15 minutes one way according to Wikipedia) and on to the Valley of the Five Ponds. The red one runs from Wodogrzmoty to Morskie Oko and to Palenica Białczańska, and from Rówień Waksmundzka to Wodogrzmoty. The walking times are given by Wikipedia, so treat them as approximate.
It is about 4.4 km as the crow flies to Morskie Oko, and by the lake stands the PTTK Mountain Hut at Morskie Oko. Closer, about 1.9 km from here, you enter the Roztoka Valley, and further up lies the Valley of the Five Polish Ponds. In the area there is also the Siklawa waterfall.
