About PTTK Mountain Hut on Leskowiec

A wooden PTTK mountain hut from 1933 at an altitude of 890 m below Groń Jana Pawła II in the Little Beskids.

The PTTK Mountain Hut on Leskowiec is a mountain hut of the Polish Tourist and Sightseeing Society (PTTK) in the Andrychów Beskids, in the eastern part of the Little Beskids. It stands at an altitude of 890 m above sea level below the summit of Groń Jana Pawła II, formerly called Jaworzyna. It takes its name from Leskowiec, which lies 800 metres south-west of the building.

How the hut came to be

The wooden building was put up in 1932 by the carpenter Jan Bargiel of Targoszów. Construction took four months, and the funds were provided by local members of the Tatra Society and its main board. The official opening took place on 3 September 1933.

From the history of the building

During the Second World War German soldiers came close to burning down the hut. According to the description on Wikipedia, the host saved the building by treating them to home-made spirits.

A junction of trails

The red, yellow, blue and green trails meet at the hut, leading to nearby villages and peaks. Groń Jana Pawła II itself is one of the more important crossroads in this part of the Beskids. Close to the hut there are also ski slopes with a lift, and the building houses a GOPR (Mountain Rescue Service) station.

Accommodation and food

Accommodation is in rooms for three to nine people. The hut runs a buffet and serves full meals from a home kitchen. It also organises group camps and winter stays. Voluntary blood donors can expect a discount, and the hut's website gives the conditions.
