Ispina
About Wiślisko Kobyle Nature Reserve

A water reserve on an oxbow lake of the Vistula in the northern part of the Niepołomice Forest, with yellow water-lily and white water-lily.

The Wiślisko Kobyle Nature Reserve is a water reserve on the northern edge of the Niepołomice Forest, in Drwinia municipality in Bochnia County. It was established in 1971. It protects a fragment of the former bed of the Vistula, that is, an oxbow lake.

What is protected

The protection covers an oxbow lake with rich plant communities. Protected yellow water-lily and least water-lily grow here, along with various species of sedge. The reserve is also a nesting site for many protected bird species. The land belongs to the State Treasury and is managed by the Niepołomice Forest District, Ispina forestry.

Threats and status

The main threat is natural succession, that is, the silting up and overgrowing of the water body. Together with the nearby Koło Nature Reserve in the Niepołomice Forest, the reserve has been included in the Natura 2000 network, as part of the "Koło Grobli" habitat area and the Niepołomice Forest bird area.
