Kraków
About Piotr Skrzynecki Monument in Kraków (Main Market Square)

A bronze monument to the founder of the Piwnica pod Baranami cabaret, unveiled in 2000 in front of the Kamienica Pod Blachą townhouse.

The Piotr Skrzynecki Monument stands at Main Market Square 29, in front of the Kamienica Pod Blachą townhouse. The bronze figure sits at a table in the garden of the Vis-à-Vis drink bar, in a place that was the informal office of the Piwnica pod Baranami cabaret.

Who it shows

Piotr Skrzynecki was the creator and artistic director of Piwnica pod Baranami, as well as the cabaret's director, scriptwriter and compère. The sculpture shows him in his favourite corner of the garden, where artists associated with the Piwnica used to meet. You can sit down beside him, which means the monument often serves as an ordinary place for photographs and a short stop.

Authors and unveiling

The bronze monument is the work of Krystyna Borkowska-Niemojewska and Łukasz Niemojewski. It was funded by Zbigniew Preisner and Władysław Bartoszewski. It was unveiled on 29 June 2000.
