About Monument to the Martyrdom of Soldiers of the Union of Armed Struggle - Home Army Killed and Murdered for the Homeland in 1939-1945 in Rabka-Zdrój

An obelisk with a plaque of the names of 66 soldiers of the Union of Armed Struggle from the Rabka area, unveiled in 2003 on the promenade.

The monument commemorates 66 soldiers of the Union of Armed Struggle (ZWZ) who fought in the Rabka-Zdrój area in 1939-1945. It stands on the promenade next to the "Zbrojowa" café, near the Spa Park.

Where the monument came from

The initiator of its construction was Anna Rudzińska, daughter of Tadeusz Kumer, commander of a platoon operating in the Rabka area and a soldier of the ZWZ and Home Army. A public building committee was formed in the autumn of 2001, and the unveiling took place in 2003. The construction was financed by the Council for the Protection of Memory of Combat and Martyrdom.

What it looks like

It is an obelisk with a round opening in which a Cross of Valour is set. The monument carries a plaque with the names of the fallen and murdered soldiers, and the top is crowned with a sculpture of an eagle. The design was made by the artist Leszek Zachara, and the eagle sculpture by Andrzej Szczepaniec. The monument is looked after by pupils of Lower Secondary School no. 1 in Rabka.
