The monument to Józef Warszewicz is a marble bust from around 1862, by Franciszek Wyspiański. It stands in the Botanical Garden of the Jagiellonian University at Kopernika 27 and commemorates a gardener and traveller connected with this place. The Botanical Garden itself is described separately.
Warszewicz (1812-1866) was born in Vilnius and died in Kraków. In 1845-1850 he took part in expeditions to Central America, and in 1850-1853 to South America. From 1854 he worked in the Kraków Botanical Garden and enlarged its collections by about 10 thousand plant species. He specialised in orchids, and more than 40 plant species and three genera bear his name.
