About Monument to Ignacy Jan Paderewski in Strzelecki Park (Kraków)

A monument to Paderewski by Czesław Dźwigaj, funded by the Kraków Fowler Brotherhood and unveiled in 2010.

The Monument to Ignacy Jan Paderewski stands in Strzelecki Park at ul. Lubicz 16, in the Grzegórzki district. Its author is Czesław Dźwigaj, and it was unveiled on 17 July 2010.

Who funded it

The monument was funded by the Kraków Fowler Brotherhood (Bractwo Kurkowe), of which Paderewski was an honorary member. At the base you can see a small plaque with the brotherhood's emblem, the Silver Cockerel. The foundation was linked with the 150th anniversary of the composer's birth, the 600th anniversary of the Battle of Grunwald, the 100th anniversary of the unveiling of the Grunwald Monument and the 600th anniversary of the Kraków Merchants' Congregation.

Inscription and notes

On the plinth is the inscription “Ignacy Jan Paderewski, artist and statesman, 1860-1941” and a stave with the opening bars and words of the song “Hej, Orle Biały” (“Hey, White Eagle”). It was Paderewski's last poem and last composition, written in 1917. It is one of three monuments to the composer in Kraków, the others being by the Pusłowski Palace and in the courtyard of the Collegium Paderevianum.
