Pyramid in Zagórzany

Zagórzany
About Pyramid in Zagórzany

The tomb of the Skrzyński family in the shape of a pyramid 10 metres high with a cross on top, from 1931.

The Pyramid in Zagórzany is the tomb of the family of the Counts Skrzyński, built as a reduced copy of the Egyptian Pyramid of Cheops. It is 10 metres high, and from its apex rises a large cross with a figure of the crucified Christ. It stands in Zagórzany in Gorlice County.

Who built it and when

The tomb was designed by the architect Teodor Marian Talowski for the Skrzyński family. Construction began in 1931, and the first burial took place on 1 October of that year. The remains were moved into the pyramid on 25 September 1932.

The cross on top

According to the Wikipedia entry, the cross was added after the Second World War, although photographs from 1932 suggest that it may have stood there earlier. The combination of an Egyptian form with a Christian symbol is what distinguishes this tomb from ordinary manorial necropolises.
