Lilli Wenedy Park

Kraków
About Lilli Wenedy Park

A city park of 9.32 ha in Prokocim with five ponds, opened in 1999.

Lilli Wenedy Park is a city park of 9.32 ha in District XII Bieżanów-Prokocim, between Stary Prokocim and the Nowy Prokocim estate. It is surrounded by detached houses on ks. Piotra Ściegiennego and Bieżanowska streets and by blocks of flats on Konrada Wallenroda and Lilli Wenedy streets.

Where the park came from

The area was previously part of the Prokocim Forest, about 16 ha of natural woodland. During the war the Germans built railway infrastructure nearby, and artificial drainage shaped the forest here. The park was created in 1995-1999 and officially opened on 2 October 1999. The design was prepared by the architect Maria Chomik-Wolak.

What is in the park

The park lies in a depression surrounded by embankments: gentle ones to the east, up to 2 m high to the north, and up to 7 m high to the west. It contains five connected ponds with a total area of 4,130 m² and about 650 newly planted trees and shrubs. Three vegetation zones stand out: natural forest with alder, willow, poplar and birch, new ornamental plantings, and a tidy layout with conifers and ornamental shrubs.

The paths are accessible to people with disabilities, there are two car parks, and the playground was renovated in 2017. Woodpeckers, thrushes and starlings live in the park, along with amphibians (frogs and newts), squirrels and hedgehogs.

Nearby

It is about 5.6 km from here to the Wieliczka Salt Mine and about 4.2 km to Oskar Schindler's Enamel Factory.
