Czarkowski Palace in Kraków

Straszewskiego 20, Kraków
About Czarkowski Palace in Kraków

A Neo-Renaissance palace from 1876 by the Planty, the former Wedding Palace, entered in the heritage register.

The Czarkowski Palace stands at ul. Straszewskiego 20, in Nowy Świat in Kraków, right by the Planty. It was designed by Maksymilian Nitsch in 1876, and the building was entered in the heritage register in 1968.

Architecture

It is a small Neo-Renaissance palace with decoration recalling an Italian villa. The façade is adorned with small columns, niches for sculptures, cornices, rich window surrounds and small balconies. The building is of brick, with interiors designed with the comfort of the residents in mind.

Its place in the city plan

The palace was built as part of a concept in which a ring road was laid out around the newly established Planty Park and a row of villas and small palaces was built along it. The building is compositionally linked with one of the Planty gardens. It was thoroughly renovated in 1970-1977. It formerly housed the Registry Office, hence the name Wedding Palace (Pałac Ślubów).
