A university museum with mementoes of the successive incarnations of Kraków's school of economics, from 1924 to the present.
The Museum of the University of Economics in Kraków tells the story of a school that has changed its name and status over the decades but has trained staff for the economy since 1924. It is a small university facility, so it works as an addition to a walk in the area rather than a destination in its own right.
The museum was established by a resolution of the Senate of the Academy of Economics of 30 September 2004 and opened in the same year. The idea of collecting mementoes goes back to the university's 50th anniversary in 1975. The exhibition presents the successive incarnations of the school: the Institute of Commodity Science with the Commodity Science Studium, founded in 1924, the Higher Commercial Studium, the Commercial Academy, the Higher School of Economics, the Academy of Economics and finally the University of Economics.
The collection consists mainly of academic mementoes. Among them are an 18th-century wooden sculpture of St John of Nepomuk, a plaque of the Institute of Commodity Science from 1924, the student card of Prince Adam Sapieha from the 1927/28 academic year, a Pelikan pen that belonged to Professor Arnold Bolland, a student cap in the university's colours, old typewriters and a recording of the blessing of John Paul II from 1999.
