A museum in Łagiewniki with John Paul II memorabilia and papal gifts, part of the John Paul II Centre “Do Not Be Afraid”.
The St John Paul II the Great Museum stands in Łagiewniki, in the “Veritas” building at ul. Totus Tuus 30, next to the Shrine of St John Paul II. It is part of the John Paul II Centre “Do Not Be Afraid” and collects memorabilia connected with the Polish pope.
The collections consist of John Paul II's personal items and gifts he received during 27 years of his pontificate, on apostolic journeys and at meetings with guests. The pope handed them over gradually, mainly at the end of the 20th and the beginning of the 21st century, and a large part of the collection was added after his death by Cardinal Stanisław Dziwisz.
The permanent exhibitions are “Our Pope”, “Who Is the Man from the Shroud” and “Karol Wojtyła in Trentino”. The museum has operated since 23 June 2013, the day of the consecration of the shrine's Upper Church.
It is about 700 metres from here to the Shrine of Divine Mercy, so the two places are easy to combine in one visit to Łagiewniki.
