A museum in a historic tenement house at Kościelna 4, next to the Family Home of John Paul II, with collections of art, numismatics and geological specimens.
The Municipal Museum in Wadowice is located at Kościelna 4, right next to the Family Home of John Paul II. It is a separate institution with its own collections, operating within the Wadowice Cultural Centre since 1996.
The museum occupies one of the oldest tenement houses in the town, Neoclassical in form. According to the Wikipedia description, at various times it housed, among others, a milk bar where the young Karol Wojtyła ate with his father, and the seat of the Polonia football club. The collections hold more than three thousand items: paintings, prints, photographs, documents connected with the history of Wadowice, a numismatic collection with medals of John Paul II, and geological specimens, among them meteorites and tektites.
The painting and sculpture department shows works by local artists, among others Wincenty Bałys and Franciszek Suknarowski.
When visiting the pope's home town you can combine a visit with the Family Home and the nearby basilica.
