A small display of Baltic amber at a jewellery gallery in Kraków's Old Town, with inclusions and a laboratory.
The Amber Museum at Świętego Jana 2 in Kraków is a small display devoted to Baltic amber. According to the venue's website it operates at the Boruni jewellery gallery, so it should be treated as an exhibition in a gallery, not as a large museum.
The display shows specimens of Baltic amber with inclusions, that is, small organisms trapped in resin, and a piece of amber with a drop of water inside. There are also comparisons of amber with other resins from around the world and boards on how this stone is formed and how it has been worked over the centuries. At the museum there is an amber laboratory where you can check the authenticity of your own specimens.
The venue's website says that from November 2023 the form of the museum is changing: the present display has been reduced and is available as part of the gallery. Check what is currently on show before your visit.
