A museum of memorabilia of the 1st Podhale Rifles Regiment of the Home Army by the Partisan Chapel in Szczawa, a branch of the Diocesan Museum in Tarnów.
The Museum of the 1st Podhale Rifles Regiment of the Home Army in Szczawa is a small institution devoted to the partisans who fought during the Second World War in this part of the Gorce Mountains and on the slopes of Mogielica. It is a branch of the Diocesan Museum in Tarnów.
The exhibition includes the regiment's banner, uniforms and soldiers' equipment, militaria, documents and photographs. A separate display case holds urns with soil from the regiment's battlefields. The unit's operations took place mainly on the slopes of Mogielica, Wielki Wierch, Kiczora and Wyrębiska.
The museum was founded on 2 May 1987 in rooms of the presbytery, on the initiative of the local parish priest. In 1989 the exhibition was moved to the present building, adapted with the support of the residents of Szczawa and the Canadian Polish diaspora. The building adjoins the wooden Church of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, known as the Partisan Chapel (Kościółek Partyzancki).
Next door stands the Church of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, and trails lead to Mogielica.
