Two twin bridges over the Dunajec, the only road to Szczawnica, illuminated, with a cycle path.
The Józef Piłsudski Bridges are a pair of twin bridges over the Dunajec River in Krościenko nad Dunajcem, which carry the only road link between Szczawnica and the rest of the country. Kozłeczyzna Street runs across them from the roundabout in the centre, where Jagiellońska and Jana III Sobieskiego streets and the lane to the market square meet.
In the mid-19th century a wooden footbridge on piles stood here, with a ferry beside it, and in 1871-1872 a covered wooden bridge was built at Zawiesy to a design by Wacław Ibiański. A reinforced concrete bridge by the market square was under construction from 1928, and in July 1934 the greatest interwar flood destroyed the old bridge at Zawiesy. The new bridge was 130 m long and had three spans of 38 m each.
In 2009-2011 the bridge was thoroughly renovated to a design by Robert Słota and a second, identical one was built beside it. The project won the title of Modernisation of the Year 2011. Both bridges are illuminated, and the southern one carries a two-way cycle path 2.5 m wide, linking the market square with the route along the Dunajec boulevards.
