Bronze bench with Ignacy Jan Paderewski by Ewa Fleszar in the market square in Ciężkowice, unveiled on 3 May 2018.
The Paderewski Bench stands in the market square in Ciężkowice. It is a bronze monument showing the seated Ignacy Jan Paderewski, a musician and politician connected with the region, with a piano beside him.
The cast is the work of the sculptor Ewa Fleszar. The figure is life-size, and on the side of the piano there is an inscription: “He won Poland on the piano”. A special mechanism plays the Minuet in G major, Op. 14 No. 1, in a 1937 recording by Paderewski himself. The monument was unveiled on 3 May 2018, on the hundredth anniversary of the regaining of independence. It faces the townhouse in which in 1898 Paderewski set up an intelligentsia casino-club.
In 1897-1903 Paderewski owned the manor house in nearby Kąśna Dolna, where the Paderewski Centre operates today. In Ciężkowice he founded a fire brigade unit, restored the small chapel of St Florian, supported the building of a school and the renovation of the church, and also funded the bell of St Urban.
