About Church of the Descent of the Holy Spirit in Kraków

A modern parish church in Ruczaj, designed by Witold Cęckiewicz and consecrated in 2011.

The Church of the Descent of the Holy Spirit is a modern parish church in Kraków's Ruczaj, in the Dębniki district, at ul. gen. Stanisława Rostworowskiego 13. It was built in the 1990s and at the beginning of the 21st century, and its designer is Prof. Witold Cęckiewicz.

How the church was built

Construction lasted over a decade, from the blessing of the site in 1992 to the consecration in 2011. The parish was established in 1989, and the building permit was issued in February 1993. In June 1997 John Paul II blessed a foundation stone taken from the tomb of St Hedwig, which was set in the wall a few days later. The faithful entered the new church in November 2001, and the solemn consecration was performed in October 2011 by Cardinal Franciszek Macharski.

What you will find inside and outside

The church has one tower with four bells, which were hung in 1997-2004. In the church stands an organ with 28 stops, two manuals and a pedalboard, built in 2020 and blessed in April 2021. It is a good stop for people who like contemporary sacred architecture, although it is a parish church, not a museum site.

On a visit to this part of the city you can reach the Sanctuary of Divine Mercy, less than two kilometres away.
