A wooden church of 1789-1791 in Lachowice, on the Wooden Architecture Route.
The wooden church in Lachowice, from the end of the 18th century, belongs to the Wooden Architecture Route of Lesser Poland Voivodeship. It has even appeared on a postage stamp.
The church was built in 1789-1791 and consecrated on 1 January 1792. It replaced a wooden cemetery chapel from 1707. It has a log construction on a stone foundation and a single nave measuring about 12 by 10 metres, with a narrower chancel. A hexagonal dome rises above the nave, and on the west side stands a square tower of post-and-frame construction with an onion-shaped cupola.
The furnishings are late Baroque: a two-tier wooden high altar, a pulpit with a canopy and an organ from 1836. The chancel ceiling is decorated with a large painting of the Immaculate Conception modelled on Murillo. In 1974 Poczta Polska issued a stamp with this church in a series on folk architecture.
Nearby it is worth visiting the Beskid Wooden Toy Centre, and a little further away the viewing tower in Stryszawa.
