Church of St John Paul II in Kraków

Kraków
About Church of St John Paul II in Kraków

An octagonal church on two levels in Łagiewniki, part of the John Paul II Centre.

The Church of St John Paul II stands in Łagiewniki at ulica Totus Tuus 32 and is part of the John Paul II Centre “Do Not Be Afraid”. It was designed by Andrzej Mikulski.

The building

The church has an octagonal plan, and its style recalls the Byzantine churches of Ravenna, for example the Basilica of San Vitale. It consists of two levels: a lower relics church and an upper one. Next to it stands an observation tower.

History

The church was blessed on 23 June 2013, and the solemn dedication took place on 16 October 2016. Both rites were performed by Cardinal Stanisław Dziwisz.

Nearby

Only a few hundred metres away stands the Divine Mercy Sanctuary, so the two places are usually visited together.
