About St Adalbert's Church in Szczawnica

A Neo-Gothic parish church from 1882-1892 built of Pieniny stone and brick, designed by Stanisław Eljasz-Radzikowski.

St Adalbert's Church in Szczawnica is a Neo-Gothic parish church in the Krościenko nad Dunajcem deanery of the Diocese of Tarnów. It stands at ul. Jana Wiktora 1a.

Construction

The present church was built in 1882-1892 to a design by Stanisław Eljasz-Radzikowski. The work was led by Father Jan Oleksik. The walls were built of Pieniny stone and brick; the building has a spacious nave, a short chancel with a three-sided end, a tower at the front and two chapels in the form of transept arms.

Interior

The furnishings are Neo-Gothic. The high altar and the font were made by Kazimierz Chodziński, the four side altars in the form of triptychs and the pulpit by Władysław Łuczkiewicz, and the figural polychrome decoration in 1923 by Karol Polityński. The organ from 1895 was built by Tomasz Fall. The bell Józef was cast in 1860 in Sheffield. In the attic lives the lesser horseshoe bat, a very rare bat.
