About St Catherine's Church in Kamionka Mała

A wooden parish church from 1778 with a polychrome from 1857 and a Baroque organ from 1683.

St Catherine the Virgin and Martyr's Church in Kamionka Mała is a wooden parish church in the municipality of Laskowa, in Limanowa County. Its patron is St Catherine of Alexandria.

History

The first church in Kamionka was built in the 15th century but was destroyed. Its building material was used when a new church was raised in 1778. In 1790 a tower was added, and in 1884 the chancel, a side chapel, a porch and a sacristy. The church was consecrated in the same year.

The building and interior

The church is single-nave and oriented, built of timber in log construction, with a narrower chancel closed on three sides and a shingle roof. A square post-frame tower, clad in boards and topped with a bulbous cupola with a lantern, adjoins the front. Beside it stands a stone belfry from 1925 in the shape of an arcade.

Inside is a figural polychrome from 1857, the work of Ferdynand Miklasiński. In the high altar there is a wooden figure of St Catherine, held in particular veneration here. Also preserved are, among other things, a crucifix on the rood beam, a pulpit with a polychrome of the Evangelists and a Baroque organ built in Stary Sącz in 1683 for the church in Brzeziny and later bought for Kamionka.
