About Church of St John Cantius in Kraków

A postmodern parish church from 1984-1992 in Bronowice Nowe, designed by Krzysztof Bień, with a form recalling an ark.

The Church of St John Cantius is a parish church on the Bronowice Nowe estate, at ul. Jabłonkowska 18. It is served by diocesan priests. The building from 1984-1992 stands out for its modern, postmodern form.

Construction and architecture

The church was built in 1984-1992 and consecrated in 2000. It was designed by Krzysztof Bień, who took as his model Le Corbusier's chapel of Notre-Dame du Haut in Ronchamp. The mass is meant to recall the biblical ark. The interior is single-nave, and the ceiling imitates a starry sky.

Furnishings

In the church particular veneration is given to St John Cantius and to Our Lady of the Gate of Dawn. The organ has 40 stops arranged on three manuals and a pedal. It was financed entirely from parishioners' donations, and its sound refers to French Romanticism.

From the estate it is about 2.7 km to Henryk Jordan Park and about 2.8 km to the Kościuszko Mound.
