About St Florian's Church in Długopole

A new church from 2002 on the site of a demolished old one, with Podhale ornament in the altar.

St Florian's Church in Długopole is a modern branch church of the parish of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Ludźmierz, in the Nowy Targ deanery.

From chapel to new church

From the second half of the 14th century Długopole had a parish church, which in 1519 was incorporated into the Nowy Targ parish as a branch church, and later into that of Ludźmierz. In 1894 the village funded a small chapel of St Florian after it had survived a fire. In 1998 the old church was demolished, and the new church was built by 2002.

Interior

The church has a single nave, with a chapel on the south side, an asymmetrically placed tower and a wooden ceiling. The altarpiece is decorated with motifs of Podhale ornament, as is the wainscoting. In a side altar hangs a large painting of St Florian, moved from the high altar. According to the source, the church is to take the dedication of Blessed John Paul II in the future.
