About Church of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Zaborów

Brick church from 1948-1951 with a 17th-century painting of Our Lady of Zaborów.

The Church of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Zaborów is a parish church in Brzesko County, built in brick in 1948-1951 to a design by Zdzisław Kupiec. It was blessed on 2 July 1951 and consecrated on 9 July 1967.

Where the parish came from

The parish was separated in 1819 from the parish in Szczurowa. The first church was a wooden chapel dedicated to St Ignatius of Loyola, and in 1830 a wooden church was built with the support of Teresa Radecka. It was consecrated in 1858. The present brick church replaced that building.

Building and interior

The church is eclectic, three-nave, of basilica type, with a square tower next to the body of the church. The high altar holds a 17th-century painting of Our Lady of Zaborów, and there are also four neo-Baroque side altars. The polychromy was made in 1966 (according to Wikipedia its authors included Stanisław Westwalewicz). An 11-stop organ from 1851 was moved to the new church in 1955.
