A Capuchin shrine from 1958-1960 that houses the 1635 image of Our Lady of Kołomyja.
The Church of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Skomielna Czarna is a parish church and Marian shrine run by the Capuchins. It houses the image of Our Lady of Kołomyja.
The foundation stone was blessed on 12 October 1958 by Bishop Karol Wojtyła, later Pope John Paul II. The finished church was consecrated on 27 November 1960 by Bishop Julian Groblicki. The church has three aisles.
The image was painted in 1635 by the Pauline Stanisław Bezanesis, founded by Michał Stanisławski, for Kołomyja in present-day Ukraine. It is one of the first copies of the Jasna Góra image, with the crowns of King Władysław IV Vasa. It was brought to Poland in April 1946 by the sisters Petronela Kossowska and Zuzanna Perejma. It went to Mielec, then to the Capuchin monastery in Kraków, and on 2 April 1956 to Skomielna Czarna. It was moved to the church on 8 December 1961. It was crowned by Archbishop Marek Jędraszewski.
Roads lead from the area to Stołowa Góra. A few kilometres further on stands the church in Łętownia.
