About Church of Our Lady, Queen of Poland in Chełmek

Parish church in Chełmek, built in 1936 when the settlement was developing around the Bata factory.

The Church of Our Lady, Queen of Poland in Chełmek is a parish church of the Libiąż deanery in the Archdiocese of Kraków. It was built in 1936, at a time when Chełmek was developing around the Bata factory.

Construction in 1936

Excavations for the church began on 4 June 1936. Ten days later the foundation stone was blessed by Cardinal Adam Stefan Sapieha, Metropolitan of Kraków, in the presence of the management of the Bata factory, the county head and residents of Chełmek and neighbouring villages. At the beginning of September the building reached its present shape, and the interior was plastered and almost ready to serve its sacred function.

The church was opened on 11 October 1936. By order of the Metropolitan it was blessed by the dean from Ciężkowice.
