About Church of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in Szczawa (new)

A new parish church in Szczawa from 2000, next to the old wooden church, consecrated in 2022.

The new Church of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in Szczawa is a parish church that stands next to an older wooden church with the same dedication, described on a separate page: the Church of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in Szczawa.

Construction and consecration

Construction was begun by the then parish priest Edward Fąfara and continued by his successor Zygmunt Warzecha. Work was completed in 2000, although the furnishing of the interior went on. The church was designed by Julian Klimek. It was consecrated on 26 June 2022 by Bishop Andrzej Jeż.

Structure and interior

The church has a single nave, is covered with a gabled sheet-metal roof and has a small bell tower. A tall, polygonal tower topped with a dome adjoins the main body.

A considerable part of the furnishings is made of wood: hand-carved Stations of the Cross, an ornamented confessional and a font moved from the old church. The main altar is simple, and the tabernacle, shaped like a large cross, has a stained-glass window designed by Bolesław Szpechta, with figures of saints and the sacraments.

Practical information
