About Church of Divine Mercy in Tarnów

A three-nave brick church from 1984-1990 whose foundation stone was blessed by John Paul II in 1982.

The Church of Divine Mercy is a parish church in the southern part of Tarnów, on ul. Klikowska. It belongs to the Tarnów South deanery of the Diocese of Tarnów.

Construction

The foundation stone was blessed by Pope John Paul II on 27 April 1982. The work lasted from 1984 to 1990 to a design by Andrzej Boratyński and Piotr Łabowicz. The lower church was consecrated on 21 April 1990, the upper one at Christmas 1991, and the full consecration took place on 3 April 2016.

The building

The church is built of brick, with three naves, one bell tower and three altars. The three bells were cast at the Felczyński bell foundry in Przemyśl. The stained glass in the Blessed Sacrament chapel was designed by the "Opaliński" firm from Bystra Podhalańska. In this part of Tarnów, about a kilometre to the north, stands also the Church of the Holy Cross and St Philip Neri in Tarnów.
