About Church of Divine Mercy in Podłopień

A modern parish church of 1985-1991, with a mosaic of the Merciful Jesus on the façade.

The Church of Divine Mercy in Podłopień is a brick parish church in Limanowa County, built in the second half of the 1980s. It represents modern sacred architecture.

Construction

The decision to build was taken in 1983, immediately after an independent parish in Podłopień was separated from the parish in Tymbark. Work lasted from 1985 to 1991 according to a plan by the engineer Roman Łomnicki. Bishop Józef Życiński consecrated the church on 30 May 1993.

Shape and interior

The church has a single nave and two storeys, with a sharply pointed roof and a slender turret that serves as a bell tower. Three bells hang in it. The façade above the entrance is decorated with a mosaic of the Merciful Jesus with the inscription “Jesus, I trust in You”. The white interior is finished mainly in wood, and the altar, the pulpit and the font are made of marble. Light enters through stained glass windows, among them scenes from the life of Mary and images of Polish saints. In the main altar there is a copy of the image of the Merciful Jesus, surrounded by fourteen small paintings by Bolesław Szpecht.

Practical information

  • Next to the church stands a figure of St Faustina Kowalska, cast in 2005.

  • A little over 2 km further is the church in Tymbark.
