About Church of Our Lady of the Scapular in Korzenna

A Neo-Baroque church from 1957-1960 with sgraffito polychromes and mosaics, built after the previous church burned down.

The Church of Our Lady of the Scapular in Korzenna is a Neo-Baroque parish church in Nowy Sącz County. It was built in 1957-1960 on the site of the previous church, which burned down.

The parish's third church

The first, wooden church of St John the Baptist was built in 1565-1618. The second, dedicated to St Ursula, was built in 1618 and burned down on 29 October 1952. The present church was built to a design by Prot Komornicki, blessed in 1961, and consecrated on 18 July 1971 by Bishop Jerzy Ablewicz of Tarnów.

Sgraffito and mosaics

The interior is decorated with figural polychromes made in 1970 in the sgraffito technique by Stanisław Szmuc, and the backgrounds of the altars are filled with mosaics. The main altar was designed in 1967 by Mieczysław Stobierski and made by Józef Wesołowski, who also made the metal tabernacle. The pulpit is of reinforced concrete, to Komornicki's design from 1963.
