Church of Our Lady, Queen of Poland in Kraków (Kobierzyńska Street)

Kraków
About Church of Our Lady, Queen of Poland in Kraków (Kobierzyńska Street)

A church in Kobierzyn built as a garrison chapel of the 8th Uhlan Regiment, a parish church since 1934.

The Church of Our Lady, Queen of Poland stands in Kobierzyn, in the Dębniki district, at ulica Kobierzyńska 199. It began as a military chapel.

From garrison chapel to parish

In 1909-1911 the 8th Uhlan Regiment stationed in Kobierzyn built a garrison chapel for itself to a design described in the sources as Klimczok's. By a decree of 3 May 1934, Archbishop Adam Stefan Sapieha separated a new parish from the parish of St Joseph in Podgórze, covering the whole village of Kobierzyn. He made the existing branch chapel a parish church and gave it the patronage of Our Lady, Queen of Poland.

Extension

In 1997-2000 the church was extended. The former military chapel is therefore today part of a larger church.

Nearby

It is about three kilometres from here to the Divine Mercy Sanctuary in Łagiewniki.
