About Church of Our Lady of Częstochowa in Brzesko-Słotwina

Parish church in Słotwina, rebuilt in 1971-1982, with an altar combining contemporary art with furnishings from the palace chapel in Okocim.

The Church of Our Lady of Częstochowa in Brzesko-Słotwina is the church of the parish of the same name, belonging to the Brzesko deanery of the Tarnów diocese. Its present form is the result of several rebuildings, and the altar combines contemporary art with furnishings brought from a palace chapel.

From a shrine to a church

On the site of today's church there first stood a votive shrine from about 1864. In 1944 it was replaced by a brick chapel, and in 1952 it was enlarged with a nave and annexes to a design by Maria Dziadasz. Its present form comes from the rebuilding of 1971-1982 to a design by Zbigniew Zjawin. The church was consecrated on 9 March 1986 by the Bishop of Tarnów, Jerzy Ablewicz.

Altar wall and stained glass

The altar wall was designed and made by Bogdana Ligęza-Drwal and Stefan Niedorezo. It combines contemporary art with neo-Baroque furnishings acquired in 1955 from the palace chapel of the Goetz family of Okocim. The stained glass was designed and made by Józef Furdyna.
