About Church of Our Lady of the Gate of Dawn in Kraków

A single-nave Piarist church from 1985-1994 on the Wieczysta estate, with a chapel modelled on the Gate of Dawn in Vilnius.

The Church of Our Lady of the Gate of Dawn (Matka Boska Ostrobramska) is a modern church on the Wieczysta estate in Kraków, run by the Piarist order. It stands at ulica Meissnera 20.

Construction and architecture

The church was built in 1985-1994 to a design by the architect Zdzisław Nowakowski.

It is a single-nave building with two chapels, one of which is modelled on the chapel of the Gate of Dawn in Vilnius. This gives the church its dedication.

Organ and care by the order

The church is looked after by the Piarist Fathers. In 2016 a pipe organ with three manuals, pedal and 41 stops was installed in it; before that an electronic instrument was used.

Nearby

About a kilometre from the church as the crow flies lies the Polish Aviation Museum.
