What the mound is

The mound has never been investigated archaeologically. Today it is fairly levelled and may once have been larger. The time of its construction has not been established.

Legends and hypotheses

According to a village legend it is a mass grave of Hungarian soldiers. They were said to have deserted on hearing of the outbreak of an uprising in Hungary and set off to help their countrymen, but disease, most likely cholera, killed them near Liplas. Another tale says it is the burial place of villagers who died of cholera during an epidemic. There is also a hypothesis that it was a centre of pagan worship from before the baptism of Poland. None of these versions has been confirmed.
