Convent from 1901 in Zbylitowska Góra, formerly with a school and boarding house for girls, today with a parish church.
The Convent of the Sisters of the Sacré Coeur in Zbylitowska Góra, today within the boundaries of Tarnów, was founded in 1901 by the Society of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. A school with a boarding house for girls formerly operated here.
The congregation bought the land from Stanisław Żaba. The sisters arrived from a dissolved convent in Lyon at the invitation of Bishop Leon Wałęga. In 1903 a secondary school with a humanities profile was opened, and in 1908-1910 a church was built to a design by Janusz Rypuszyński. The complex was an educational and agricultural centre in which about 180 peasant children learned free of charge and acquired practical skills.
In 1915 the church and convent were badly damaged by artillery fire. After the Second World War the state took over most of the buildings and set up agricultural and technical schools in them. In 1957 the sisters opened a three-year school of home economics, and in 1980 an unofficial kindergarten.
The former convent church has been the parish church of St Stanisław Kostka since 1980, and since 2015 a kindergarten and school have operated in the complex as part of the Sacré Cœur educational complex. It is a few kilometres to the town centre, including to the cathedral in Tarnów.
