About Chapel of St Maximilian Maria Kolbe in Wilczyce

A brick chapel from 1985 in Wilczyce, whose construction was obstructed by the authorities in communist Poland.

The Chapel of St Maximilian Maria Kolbe is a brick church in Wilczyce, in Dobra municipality in Limanowa County. It was built in 1985 and belongs to the parish of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Jurków.

Construction in communist Poland

The chapel was built on the site of a catechetical point that had operated since 1976. The then parish priest, Fr Józef Puchała, initiated the construction, because the village lies far from the parish church. The authorities declared the investment illegal and the voivode seized the building site: for three years the site was held by the State Treasury. Permission was obtained only in 1983, and the blessing in 1985 was performed by Msgr Teofil Świątek.

Interior

It is a single-nave building with a turret for a sanctus bell. The chapel holds relics of St Maximilian Maria Kolbe, Blessed Karolina and Blessed Fr Jerzy Popiełuszko. The Blessed Sacrament has been kept here since 1988.
