About Targanice Quarry

A disused sandstone quarry on the slope of Kiczora hill with a flooded pit, closed in 2021.

Targanice Quarry is a disused sandstone pit on the northern and eastern slope of Kiczora hill (477 m), in Andrychów municipality.

History of extraction

At the end of the 19th century about 50 people worked in the quarry, and it was an important source of livelihood for local residents. The sandstone extracted there was used to make, among other things, monuments. The last owner was the company ATS-BUD, and extraction ended with the closure of the quarry in 2021.

What it looks like today

The lowest part of the pit has filled with water and formed a reservoir. The area has been reclassified as forest and pasture, and in 2022 there was still no idea for its development. The sources mention neither trails nor opening the pit to visitors.
