The sculptor Władysław Hasior's own gallery in the wooden building of a former sanatorium, a branch of the Tatra Museum.
The Władysław Hasior Gallery in Zakopane is the sculptor's own gallery, run as a branch of the Tatra Museum. According to the Wikipedia entry it was established in 1985 and presents about 200 works by the artist.
The gallery occupies the wooden holiday house of the “Warszawianka” sanatorium, built, according to the museum's website, in 1935 to a design by Wacław Nowakowski. The building had two storeys and a glazed south wall. After rebuilding it was turned into a multi-level exhibition space, opened in February 1985. The building is entered in the heritage register.
Władysław Hasior (1928-1999) was a sculptor trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. As the museum states, he worked with various materials, including ordinary objects and waste, and gave his works metaphorical, witty and rebellious titles. His works are in the largest Polish museums and in collections in Europe and South America.
It is about a kilometre from here to the main seat of the museum, the Tatra Museum, and less than 300 metres to the Oscypek Museum.
